Cambiando de tema...

"On Saturday evening I was invited to go to La Carreta for dinner with a group of Cuban friends. Since I didn't wish to be upsetting tothe idea I thought of acquiescing, but I just couldn't bring myself todo so. For I have long despaired at the idea of standing next to 36thAvenue and S.W. 8th, Street for what it has despicably come torepresent; The Philosophical Definition of Cuban Thought. Can we thinkof a sidewalk in the history of mankind that has spewed for over 40years(in between the gasses and the burps from the frijoles negros)the social commentaries that have enlightened the microphones andcameras asthree different generations(from children once; to grandparents today) seek andhave sought to position themselves as experts of what ails the world(since thevision they speak of transcends the shallow minds of those that merely listen.)?All from that little 10 square feet of concrete that became thepedestal of Cuban'ssocial commentary. It is right outside the sidewalk of the VersaillesRestaurant and across the street from La Carreta that any so calledpseudo-intellectual or mere reporters from all of the local newsorganizations go to seek and get an opinion of what Cuban's thinkabout any aspect of Democracy or Constitutional interpretation ofFirst Amendment Rights. And the Cubans oblige with pride(in betweentheir burps)by spewing ridiculous comments from this narrow sidewalkfor the last four decades. No matter what the political topic was, they seem proud to be courted outside these restaurants, for theirright to social commentary. No, my friend, I just couldn't go to therestaurant with you that night and relive in my mind such idiocy of apeople. Forthe comments made after dinner outside these restaurants in front oftelevision cameras, are indicative of a Cuban plague upon my conscience...

!I never met a cuban without a political opinion...it is in the blood! It is a good thing to be able to express that opinion rather than to hide it. !I am glad we can! !We are all experts on the Cuban story because we all lived it in some way...all cubans have a story to tell! Mostly a sad one but ours anyway.
